project goals

bioconfarm paves the way to achieve a sustainable use of smart plant protection measures (smart mix of pesticides, organic/alternative products, plant and soil strengthening products) in the EU by reducing the risks and impacts of pesticide use on human health and the environment and promoting the use of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and of alternative approaches or techniques, such as non-chemical alternatives to pesticides1.

The Directive 2009/128/EC is based on the thematic strategy on the sustainable use of pesticides. bioconfarm reflects on the changes in the production systems and will implement approaches that go even beyond integrated pest management systems (IPM).

  • To set up a bioconfarm thematic network and European network of living farm labs in the field of smart plant protection and to compile a comprehensive description of the state-of-the-art of current farming practices.
  • To collect, define, summarize, promote and share best practice examples.
  • To improve the take-up of best practice and research findings by farmers and foresters by developing, designing, producing and extensive range of useful, applicable and appealing end-user material and ensure sustainability of project results beyond the project duration.

  • To disseminate and communicate best-practice, know-how, research findings, innovation and living farm lab approaches to the relevant actors and target groups.
